There is something in the water of the river of the namesake of this town. When the wildlife come of age they leave the pack and lose it all. In a world of opportunity they get tangled up in the twine of the smoke, of the bottle or of the mind. He was once of the family of the friendships I vowed I would uphold standing so tall on my soapbox in adolescence, a life time ago. And now just as you are as he is – scared. Tempting fate to touch his hair. Well, I’ve done worse than childish pranks - I left him there. As the wolves circled in I held their coats. Before I picked up my filthy silver I kissed your cheek. The truth is brutal without the tune. So, I continue the masquerade. Perhaps in time judgments, like memories, would fade. There is blood now in the water from the victims of my selfish past. Our author’s curled up on a sandbar with knees to chest and red hands to face. After years of scrubbing scouring and scraping he screams “they won’t come clean”. It’s 4 a.m. and there’s no sleep for monsters like me.
